Item Details
Description
1971 Jeep, M151A2 Military 4x4 Truck and Trailer. This is a Ford built Military utility truck under federal contract DAAE06-68-C-001 with a mfg serial number of KX797138431 and MSMC serial number of 247326. The hood marking indicates MSMC but number for actual assignment 2G2872 is unknown. The vehicle appears to be a field ambulance or emergency medical vehicle and all components appear to be correct and as built. The ORD is 11639700 and BUDD S/N is 16125. National stock number is 2320-01-264-4819. All tags are intact and appear to have always been in place. The M151 was a pure Ford design starting in the early 1950s with the T-122 which then became the XM151 before being standardized as the M151. Delivery of the M151 began in 1960 but difficult handling characteristics resulted in new versions introduced in 1963 (M151A1) and again in 1969 (M151A2).This last version incorporated a much safer semi-trailing arm suspension, deep-dish wheels, larger composite-type marker and taillights, electric windshield wipers and a mechanical fuel pump. Initially, Ford produced the M151A2 from 1969-1971. AM General took over production in 1972 and continued building M151A2s until 1985.This little workhorse is powered by Ford's 142ci 4 cylinder engine. The 71hp powerplant was adequate to get things done. And this unit appears as though it was intended to get things done in extreme conditions. Intake, exhaust and engine ignition components are designed to function in high water up to driver level.Along with the M151 comes a variety of pieces. One of the more interesting pieces was the carrying case and misc. components for a mine detector. Canisters for mortar shells, boots, camo helmet and even an early M1 rode along in the trailer.A nice unit that runs well and could be readied to put back in service in parades, shows and exhibits.
