Description
2006 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. VIN WDBSK74F16F117309. In 2002 Car and Driver magazine (March 2002) called the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Fast. Not just fast. But faaaast! The car had run a breathtaking 208 mph on the Papenburg proving grounds, the world-famous testing facilities where the world's fastest wheeled machines go to play. This 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG sold new for $149,875. Even for that kind of money, it probably will never see anything north of 200 mph. Why: street worthy tires are simply not available for that sort of playing. But with 469hp on tap the SL55 is electronically limited to a 155 top speed but some European owners have discovered that removing the car's restrictor pushes the beast to 186. Not bad for a refined, luxury coupe that feels just as comfortable in local traffic as it does on the Autobahn. Well, maybe the Autobahn feels just a bit better. With a bit under 53,000 miles on the odometer, this is just one of 70 2006 SL55s with their first year for the P030 Performance Package. That package includes an incredible range of components including:* AMG Safety Car front bumper w/side air extractors* Alcantara AMG sport steering wheel *EXPEL self healing clear protective film on hood, both fenders and bumper. *AMG ABC Active suspension with "Nurburgring" calibration *AMG Compound braking system - compound front and rear brakes, cross-drilled and ventilated, 15.4" front two-piece discs with 8-piston calipers, 13.7" rear two-piece discs with four piston calipers* AMG 19" twin-spoke multipiece alloy wheels/high performance tires* AMG locking rear differential,The Car and Driver article went on to describe the SL55's "refinement and comfort" adding that the car "overlays a level of performance that raises its status of true supercar capability." Hmmmmm? Supercar capability! Something you can grab right here. The SL55 provides an exhaust note much like an "offshore-power-boat racer" letting driver and passenger feel the muted V8 throb at constant throttle but going "gloriously assertive" when the engine is called to duty. Refined hot rod might be a proper description for this luxury ride. Car comes with its own History book.
