Starting in 1968 DESCO (Diving Equipment and Supply Company) debuted the now iconic and still in use Air Hat. These helmets are also known as Free Flow or Pot Hats. Constructed of spun copper with a large acrylic window, this model is one of the most widely used helmets in the world.

This specific Free Flow helmet was just recently discovered in the inventory of a dive company who started operations in the late 1960s. Upon inspection of the helmet we were shocked to discover that this helmet is serial number 2! On the back of the helmet DESCO would clearly stamp into the brass their name and serial number.

The helmets spun copper body is clearly visible. Undoubtedly part of lots of hard underwater work, this helmet remains in relatively good condition. Please refer to the detailed photos for additional condition specifics. This early and arguably historic helmet deserves to be enjoyed by a collector or museum. Restoration of the helmet is also an option that the good folks at DESCO can provide.

All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.
