Description
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550-1070 BC Finely modelled in the form of human-headed Imsety, one of the Four Sons of Horus, guardian of the liver wearing a beard with a curled tip and voluminous wig, the face with outlined eyes, full lips and large ears. The jar preserves three columns of carefully and beautifully drawn hieroglyphs, engraved and enhanced with black pigment, of which a substantial amount remains. Translating: " To the Lord of the Two Lands and Heliopolis, Ptah-Skaris-Osiris, and Anubis, Lord of the Sacred Land (Necropolis), that they may given an invocation offering (consisting) of bread, oxen and fowl!". Item comes with a professional historical report from Ancient Report Specialists. Size: L:278mm / W:100mm; 1KgProvenance: Property of a London Art Gallery; formerly in a Brooklyn collection; Ex. Captain Magnus Julius Davidsen collection, (1877-1962), Researcher, Ethnographer and Egyptologist. Brought to Denmark between 1911 and 1922. To family by descent.
