Description
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A miniature cosmetic bowl that is hand-carved from light brown stone bearing dark, espresso-hued veining that swirls throughout. The broad, apple-shaped vessel features a planar base, a drilled basin used for containing cosmetic materials, a gently sloped shoulder, and a protruding rim that perhaps accommodated a discoid lid at one time. makeup in New Kingdom Egypt served not only as a cosmetic enhancement but also had cultural, symbolic, and practical importance. It was deeply ingrained in Egyptian society, and its usage went beyond aesthetics, influencing art, symbolism, and personal well-being. Size: 1.35" W x 0.61" H (3.4 cm x 1.5 cm)

Small chips along one side of basin, with minor nicks and abrasions along exterior surfaces, otherwise intact and excellent. Great size and lovely stone coloration.
