Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A fabulous pottery jar, expertly hand-painted with elaborate geometric designs in hues of burnt sienna and black on a creamy beige ground. Sitting upon a round yet stable base, the vessel presents a wide hip, a slanted shoulder, and a rolled rim with 2 pairs of equidistantly spaced suspension holes just below. The exterior walls feature 2 panels of nearly identical abstract designs that extends from just below the hip to the rim. Each panel displays a central lozenge motif with a dashed periphery surrounded by parallel striations and abstract patterns. Size: 7.3" Diameter x 6" H (18.5 cm x 15.2 cm)

Professional restoration to rim and along 2 stable fissures. A few miniscule stable hairline fissures extending from rim. Light surface wear as shown. Otherwise, mostly intact and incredibly preserved with excellent pigments.
