AMERICAN / BRITISH SILK-EMBROIDERED NEEDLEWORK BIBLICAL PICTURE, silk, pencil, and paint on silk, depicting the Pharaoh's daughter discovering baby Moses in a basket amongst the reeds on the bank of the Nile river from Exodus chapter 2, versus 1-10, featuring two figures having painted faces and hands in draped clothing, discussing the painted figure of Moses, surrounded by luscious foliage and trees with buildings in the distance. Housed under glass in a period, possibly original, gilt-molded frame with eglomise mat. First quarter 19th century. 15 3/4" x 13" sight, 21 1/2" x 18 1/4" OA.
Condition
Good to very good visual condition with toning, original silk for sky cut and ground laid to later fabric, some shattering to remaining original silk, thread with fugitive color, some breaks notably to lower right, frame with wear, losses and chips to molding, and other imperfections. Not examined out of frame.
