AMERICAN / BRITISH SILK-EMBROIDERED NEEDLEWORK PICTURE, silk, chenille, and paint on silk, finely executed stitching depicting a scene of three women in period dress with painted faces and hands, featuring one woman kneeling on the ground with hands reaching out while one woman pushing the third woman away, the background featuring a throne chair, a window with drawn curtain, and two tables at the ends. Housed under glass with eglomise mat in a period gilt molded frame. First half 19th century. 12" x 9 3/4" sight, 16 1/2" x 14 1/8" OA.
Needlework in very good visual condition with light toning, light fading and fugitive color to thread, scattered minor breaks to thread, eglomise mat failing with flakes laying on top of needlework, some tears and losses to silk ground visible through mat, frame with wear, scratches, flakes, chips and touchups to gilt. Not examined out of frame.
