Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 900 to 1450 CE. A beautiful, and large square panel of a hand-woven textile comprised of hand spun cotton fibers with stylized deer motifs. The textile displays the skilled double weave technique - the corners pull back enough from the mounting to reveal the reverse face is opposite from the obverse - blue deer on a white ground. Above the deer register is a looser tapestry weave alternating threads of blue and white. The piece is mounted on paperboard backing within a metal frame and is ready to be displayed.
