8vo. Publisher's green cloth, pictorial dust jacket printed in green and black. Some wear to edges and spine ends, small rust stain (from paper clip) to front cloth, toning, jacket sunned on spine, spotting, toning and a few stains on front and back panels, chipping to edges, especially to front panel, paper clip mark on top of front panel.

FIRST EDITION, in a rare, unrestored original jacket. Orwell was one of a number of authors who volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War against the Nationalists. He was nearly killed by a sniper's bullet that passed through his neck, but lived to write this account of his experiences. Fenwick A.6.
