AN INDIAN COLONIAL SILVER HINGED TANKARDHAMILTON & CO., CIRCA 1900With a bifurcated thumb piece to the domed cover and engraved with a crest and a motto Vivat Veritas, a scroll handle and reeded base18cm (7in) high1148g (36.9 oz) The crest for the DUNCAN family, Lairds of Ardownie, Tayside, Scotland. The family arms were in 1698 granted by the Lyon Court.In the period of the assay (c1900) there was a notable use of this crest and motto by William MacDougal DUNCAN (1873-1964). He was born in Lancashire and died in Tonbridge, Kent and his ancestry can be traced to Aberdeen and Tayside
