A Victorian sterling silver four-piece tea service, London 1891/98 by Wakley and Wheeler
In the 18th century Irish manner, comprising a teapot (1898), a bachelor teapot (1891), a sugar bowl (1891) and a milk jug (1891). The pots of rounded circular form with a protruding wavy edge, with curved spouts opposite wooden C scroll handles pinned to shaped sockets. The hinged domed lids surmounted by detachable cast finials of swans with wooden insulators. The sugar bowl of hemispherical form and the milk of helmet form, each element raised upon three paw feet with lion mask junctions with tail wrapped around. The bodies with embossed decoration of classical dolphins, birds, swans, dogs and foxes with C scrolls and foliage. Each with a rocaille cartouche engraved with an initial B in cursive script flourished. Each fully marked.
