Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine pottery figure of a seated female displaying the characteristic elongated visage and stylized form of Jalisco artistic tradition, all adorned in red and orange slip. Wearing a skirt and a collar necklace, the topless female presents a broad, flat body, ample breasts with raised nipples, and attenuated arms projecting from her square shoulders. Her towering brow is surmounted by an incised headband and flared headdress that sit high above her slit-form eyes, sharp nose, and slightly open mouth. A pair of rectangular ears flanks her face, each with a trio of hoop ornaments. Size: 6" W x 9.3" H (15.2 cm x 23.6 cm)

Professionally repaired with restoration. Some nicks and abrasions to areas. Otherwise, excellent with impressive remaining pigments and nice manganese deposits.
