Fidel Castro Doc Signed 3x Re: Juvenile Prisoners
Cuban Leader Fidel Castro (1926-2016) typed document signed three times as Prime Minister of Cuba, "Fidel Castro" on the last page, and with his initials, "F.C." on the first two pages. Dated September 15, 1959. Countersigned by the President and Minister of Justice, with the blind-stamped embossed seals of the three offices over their respective signatures, and blue ribboned seal underneath. Three-page document measures 9" x 13.5" on three sheets. Single horizontal fold, tears with paper loss along left margin, foxing, minor creases, else very good condition.
On Cuban Republic Presidential letterhead, the document establishes laws to deal with the chaos immediately following the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959, specifically the escape of male juvenile prisoners after security fled the prison. First paragraph of the document translates in part, "The abandonment of their functions of the director and many instructors of the Institute for the Reeducation of Male Minors on January 1 of this year, as a result of the overthrow of the tyranny, produced in said institute...a great state of confusion that brought as a consequence the evasion of a large number of minors with a breach of the security measures to which they were subject..." Document goes on to deal with the consequences of the escape of the young prisoners, and the penalties involved.
