Houdini Writes His Lawyer Oliver Barrett About Lincoln Artifacts
1p, measuring 8.25" x 5.5", New York, dated August 9, 1926. Signed "Houdini" in pencil and addressed to Oliver Barrett on personal letterhead. A short note reading, "The enclosed Lincoln items might interest you." with an additional postscript in Houdini's hand reading, "I saw 2 Lincoln letters in Gordon Bennet father's sale." The letter has flattened mail folds and light creasing. Boldly signed.
Oliver Barrett (1873-1950) was an author, lawyer, and prolific collector of artifacts relating to President Abraham Lincoln. His collection of autographs, papers, and other items became the most important collection of Lincoln manuscripts and artifacts in history, earning him fame and praise from Lincoln scholars and researchers. Barrett and Houdini were friendly after Barrett served as the latter's lawyer and represented him in several lawsuits dealing with fake mediums that Houdini had exposed.
