Copy Letter Signed George M. Bibb U.S. Treasury Secretary
c. 1842 Letter from George M. Bibb, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to Horace Bassett, Clerk of the U.S. Court at Indianapolis, Fine.
A fair copy of an official letter, measuring 11" x 8", 1 page, date unknown (the ink burned through the thin wove paper) from the Treasury Department, (Washington, DC). Bibb writes to Bassett informing him that a form that once accompanied the original letter had not been filled out incompletely and was therefore not in compliance with the Act of May 1842 - an Act making appropriations for the civil and diplomatic expenses of the government. The thin, onionskin paper has several significant ink burn-throughs, yet the content is still present and legible. George M. Bibb was a U.S. Senator from Kentucky from March 4, 1829 - March 3, 1835 and the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from July 4, 1844 - March 7, 1845.
