1746-Dated, Hand-Colored Engraved MAP OF THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE titled, "Americae Mappa Generalis," by Heirs Of Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724), Nuremburg, Germany.
This historic Hand-Colored Double-Sheet Engraved Map is on very clean heavy laid period paper. It is titled, "Americae Mappa Generalis" published 1746 in Nuremburg, retaining its original rich old color outlining, measuring 20.75" x 23.25" having nice visual appeal with minor discoloration in the outer marginal edges. A large Cartouche at lower left depicts Native American Indians, one appears to be a Native Chief holding his spear being shaded under an umbrella. A highly important feature of this Map is that California is shown as a huge apparent Island separated by the Colorado River. A visually lovely and striking Map for display.
