January 13, 1854-Dated, Slave for Hire Manuscript Document, Cherokee County, Texas, Choice Very Fine.
Original Manuscript Document Signed by G.B. Matthews, Austin Jones, and G.W. Pierson, 10.25" x 6.75", 1 and 1/2 pages. Secretarial Copy, written and signed by the same hand. The men agree to contract out a "negro slave named Daniel of dark complexion a man aged about forty five years, for the sum of Two Hundred dollars." Daniel was contracted to serve William Roark, and would be provided "three suits of clothes, a hat and two pairs of shoes" during the year. Lightly toned document, with minor stains, and a torn corner--repaired with tape.
