A rare first American edition of The Two Magics: The Turn of the Screw, Covering End by Henry James. Published by The Macmillan Company, New York, 1898. One of only 2,250 copies, published either simultaneously with the British edition or one week later. This copy comes in its original maroon cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and gilt on the top edge of the pages. There are 393 pages in this volume, followed by three pages of advertisements for other Henry James works. Henry James, 1843 to 1916, was an American-born British author. He is regarded as a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism, and is considered by many to be among the greatest novelists in the English language. He was the son of Henry James Sr. and the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James.
