Receipt to Jacob Graff, Jewish Bricklayer Who Owned the House Where Thomas Jefferson Wrote the Declaration of Independence. Document signed by Samuel Bell, 5 x 7¼", Philadelphia, Mar. 31, 1759. Being a receipt for linens, muslin, and satin bought by Jacob Graff, a well-known bricklayer, who owned the house at 7th and Market St. (built in 1775), where Thomas Jefferson would write the Declaration of Independence in June 1776. Jefferson rented two second-floor rooms from Graff, a parlor and a bedroom. The house was reconstructed in 1975.
