Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Narino/Capuli Complex, ca. 850 to 1500 CE. A lovely pair of pottery examples from Narino culture: a bichrome bowl and a redware whistle. First, the bowl presents a conical foot and flared walls that span out to a broad rim above a shallow basin, all enveloped in a creamy almond-hued slip with a burnt sienna "X" motif on the interior. Alternatively, the whistle exhibits an abstract form perhaps intended as a shell or a zoomorph with a bulbous midsection flanked by a tubular protrusion at one end and a flattened, tail-like protuberance at the other. An annular opening at the top of the midsection serves as the blow hole, while 4 scattered perforations would have allowed the instrument to produce a whistling sound when played. Size (bowl): 6.1" Diameter x 2.5" H (15.5 cm x 6.4 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-private Arkansas, USA collection, via descent in 2021; ex-private Florida estate, USA, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

Condition
Whistle no longer functions. Bowl has been expertly repaired and restored with some areas of repainting and a modern burnish throughout. Both have surface wear with nicks and abrasions as shown. Otherwise, both are nice with great mineral deposits.
