**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Midwestern United States, Kentucky, Webster County, Early Archaic Period, ca. 8000 to 6000 BCE (10,000 to 8000 BP). A sizeable and splendid example of a Dovetail or St. Charles type projectile point hand-knapped from gray hornstone chert. Formed via random percussion and selective pressure flaking, the arrowhead features an ellipsoid cross section and narrow corner notches that create a barbed shoulder, a slightly round shoulder edge, and an expanding stem with a convex base. The lengthy blade is excurvate with some remaining serrations. A truly impressive point demonstrating a high quality of workmanship! Size (point): 4.6" L x 1.5" W (11.7 cm x 3.8 cm); (Riker case): 12.3" L x 8.3" W (31.2 cm x 21.1 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-private Arkansas, USA collection, via descent in 2021; ex-private Florida estate, USA, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s
