Poncho Dept of Oruro, Bolivia, 19th century.Warp faced alpaca. Man's heirloom poncho from unknown tribal group of the western Oruro altiplano or Salar de Uyuni region. Finely woven and naturally dyed with the center collar stripes a diminished version of the primary outer color bands. Some layout similarity to the ponchos from Juli, Peru, and the Southern Lake Titicaca Lupaca tribe. Wonderfully distinct and unique primary color bands in the dominant stripes. Color has a long history of imparting information to the culturally aware viewer. Moth damage (<01%). Size: 45'' x 43'' (114 x 109 cm).
