Beautiful and rare Venetian illustrated edition of the first book entirely dedicated to gymnastics. Mercuriale was a professor of medicine in Bologna and Pisa and was the greatest scholar of the subject in his time. The beautiful plates depict boxing, ball games, fights, dexterity exercises with ropes and poles, lifting weights, etc.
