Leggere strofinature alla legatura, internamente pagine con leggere bruniture e macchiette. Buon esemplare.Importante e rara opera figurata. Sono raffigurati, nelle tavole fuori testo e nelle vignette nel testo, medaglie, emblemi, monete, divise, stemmi, iscrizioni che illustrano il regno di Re Sole; dopo il Front. è inciso un bel ritratto dell’Autore disegnato da Pierre Simon e inciso da J.B. Nolin, con data 1688; le due grandi tavole ripieg. mostrano rispettivamente l’illuminazione delle Gallerie del Louvre, in occasione della festa per la nascita del Duca di Borgogna nel 1682 (dopo p. 64), e Place des Victoires a Parigi (prima di p. 77).; in fine una serie di 34 tavole (incl. Front. e ult. n.n.) che raffigurano medaglie. Brunet ricorda che quest’opera subì la censura da parte dell’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, che ne bloccò momentaneamente la circolazione. Lo stesso Brunet conta in totale 93 tavole, il presente esemplare ne ha 96. Brunet, III, 1622-1623.

Folio; 370x235 mm. Contemporary full calf binding, with gilt frame adorned with geomatrical motifs on covers, gilt on title and decorations on back, mabled edges; woodcut vignette on titlepage and address of printers engraved on copper; engraved portrait, pp. 6, 80, 61 engraved plates o.t., pp. 8, 34 engraved plates; engraved headpieces, endpieces, initials and several vignettw in the text. A total of 96 engraved plates out text. Slight rubbed binding, inner pages with slight browning and little spots. Good specimen.
Important and rare illustrated work. In the plates outside the text and in the vignettes in the text, medals, emblems, coins, uniforms, coats of arms, inscriptions illustrating the reign of the Sun King are depicted; after the titlepage there is a beautiful portrait of the author drawn by Pierre Simon and engraved by J.B. Nolin, with the date 1688; the two large folded plates respectively concerning the illumination of the Louvre Galleries, on the occasion of the feast for the birth of the Duke of Burgundy in 1682 (after p. 64), and Place des Victoires in Paris (before p. 77); finally a series of 34 plates (incl. titlepage and last. n.n.) depicting medals. Brunet recalls that this work was censored by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, which temporarily blocked its circulation. Brunet himself has a total of 93 plates, the present copy has 96.
