Description
The lot features a circa 1889-1890’s Ontario Knife Company trade knife and Central Plains Indian beaded Buffalo hide sheath. The beaded sheath is Central Plains in pattern and is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Buffalo Bison hide which is sinew sewn with old glass trade beads. The sheath has a snake or hourglass geometric pattern and is done in early chalk white, red white heart and semi-transparent green with a section of Indian hide fringe bearing hand-rolled tin jingle dangle cones at the center and hide fringe at the base also bearing rolled tin cones. The top has a hide belt tie. The knife bears the early Ontario Knife Company Made in U.S.A. saber hallmark / makers mark and dates to circa 1889-1900. The knife has a two-piece solid wood handle which is wrapped with Indian tanned hide and accented by old brass trade tacks. A nice early set which is well preserved showing little to no bead loss and fine display. The knife is 10”L and the sheath is 10.5”L by 3.5”W.
