Description
likely carved during World War II, each hilt in the form of a figure, one a tropical female, the scabbard each in two parts, depicting the female surrounded by flowers, the other a U.S. army soldier in uniform, holding cap, the scabbard with profile of a soldier with cap, reading "U.S. Army", floral decoration, each with curved metal blade, metal supports, raised on square metal stands, taller 30 in.
Provenance: Purchased from Just Folk, Summerland, California, August 2017, noted as Ex Mendelsohn Collection; Property sold to benefit the American Folk Art Museum

scratching and scuffing throughout, embedded dirt, a few chips and losses to painted finish, blades with scratching, discoloration and rusting, one blade tip cut missing, some separation to scabbard and grip, bases with scratching and discoloration
