BRESCIA SCHOOL OIL ON GESSO WOOD PANEL, 17TH/18TH C., DIA 36" MADONNA OF THE ROSE Depicting Jesus and St. John the Baptist embracing with Mary behind them flanked by St. Anthony and St. James. Conprised of seven panels in a circular form. Having a wax Ministero dell'istruzione stamp on verso with two labels that read 'Brescia'. Later giltwood and gesso frame, H 44", W 43.5". Provenance: property of an Ohio estate.
Condition
Was originally a wooden cradled panel, early 20th C. iron cradling. Vertical cracking with pigment and gesso losses that align with the panels. Areas with flaking. Multiple varnish layers with touch ups from over the centuries.
