Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE; Colombia, Narino culture, ca. 850 to 1500 CE; An ensemble of 3 hand-built pottery artifacts from ancient South America. First is a petite Jamacoaque figure who sits with arms atop bent knees and bulging eyes centered on the face. Next is a squat Narino bowl with red-orange linear motifs painted within the basin. The largest is a Narino pottery bottle with a spherical body decorated with stepped and spiraling motifs as well as a tubular neck flanked along the bottom with a pair of pierced suspension lugs. Size (bottle): 4.8" W x 6.7" H (12.2 cm x 17 cm); (figure): 1.625" W x 3.8" H (4.1 cm x 9.7 cm); (bowl): 4.75" W x 1.75" H (12.1 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Bottle repaired from several large pieces, with loss to small area of lower body, and chipping with visible adhesive residue along break lines. Figure has losses to small areas on fingers and stool base as shown; bowl is intact. Each piece has light abrasions and extensive encrustations commensurate with age as well as fading to pigment. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
