Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved omphacite jade bead of relatively spherical form with expertly polished surfaces boasting mottled hues of sage, olivine, pistachio, celadon, and pine green. The center of the bead is biconically drilled for suspension and would have been part of an important figure's jewelry ensemble. Size (bead): 1.61" L x 1.58" W x 1.12" H (4.1 cm x 4 cm x 2.8 cm); (necklace cord): 22" L (55.9 cm)

Provenance: private Kansas, USA collection, acquired via descent from family in Jalisco, Mexico ca. the 1940s, and imported into the US in the 1970s and 1980s
