Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A fascinating pottery bowl presenting a flattened base and slender walls that curve inwards to a broad rim, all enveloped in a creamy beige slip. Elaborately decorated, the exterior of the bowl boasts horizontal registers of abstract symbols or glyphs hand-painted in hues of orange and black, as well a pair of stylized, anthropomorphic faces in low relief. Size: 10" Diameter x 4.6" H (25.4 cm x 11.7 cm)
