Description
FRENCH VERNIS MARTIN DECORATED AND SILVER-MOUNTED SEWING NEEDLE / BODKIN CASE, two-part construction with cylinder-form wood body, soft bronze tones depicting playing and flying cherubs decoration, each extension with a red painted flying bird, each section with gilt 0.800 silver mounts, interior lined with wood and shell. Each mount with a French boar's head hallmark for 0.800 silver fineness. Retains collection number sticker and detailed collection card. Circa 1780. 5 1/2" L.

Condition
Very good visual condition with expected wear, each extension and upper body with some restoration, expected overall light crazing to decoration, one silver mount detached, two parts fit very loosely, cap with a tiny hole probably as made adjacent to mount.
