Description
Extraordinary tin type photograph of civil war solider Orlando Donaldson in military uniform with encampment in back ground. 3 3/8" x 4 1/4" in very good condition. Comes with an April 26, 1862 Pittsburgh, TN hand written, very legible, Civil War letter describing graves on the battlefield, prisoners, Southern Confederacy, General Grant and other great Civil War content. Letter written on "The First Secessionist, The Devil" letter head and addressed and sent back home to family in Adams, Jefferson County, New York. Also included in this lot is a 1860 letter from Orlando Donaldson written from Davenport, Iowa September 11, 1860 making reference to the sinking of Lady Elgin and working on a steamer boat on the Mississippi River.
