Southeast Asia, Thailand, Haripunjaya (also Haripunchai), ca. 13th century CE. An impressive pottery jar presenting tall walls that rise to a rounded shoulder and a raised rim capped by a hemispherical lid, all sitting upon a planar base. A conical knob tops the lid, serving as a handle, while 3 horizontal bands of applied, crimped clay adorn the body, shoulder edge, and lid. The lid and upper two-thirds of the vessel are additionally embellished by a creamy gray slip, though the lower third boasts the vibrant-orange tone of bare clay. Loss to periphery of lid and top of handle. Jar repaired from several pieces with restoration over break lines. Minor perforation to vessel wall. Stable hairline fissures near handle on lid. Nicks, chips, and abrasions throughout. Otherwise, very nice with light earthen deposits on interior.
