Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok, Si Satchanalai) culture, ca. 15th century CE. A nicely preserved, wheel-thrown grayware pottery vessel of a classic form. The vessel exhibits a circular base, an inverted piriform body with a rounded shoulder, a squat neck, and a flared, collared rim. Encircling the shoulder is a faint register of pecked markings, deep incisions, and a quartet of petite butterflied nubbins that were perhaps suspension lugs at one time. A fine example of Sawankhalok utilitarian artistry! Size: 7.7" Diameter x 9.875" H (19.6 cm x 25.1 cm)
