[WILSON, JAMES] Manuscript Document, 1p, 8.25" x 13", Cumberland County, circa July 1770. Docketing at verso. Flattened folds with separation at right edge, paper loss at intersecting folds, browning at top and bottom edges and folds, else Very Good.
In this manuscript legal document, Declaration Signer James Wilson, as Attorney for the claimant, John How, brings suit on behalf of his client to collect damages from the defendant, Henry Prather, who, on November 23, 1765 "was indebted to the said John in the sum of nineteen Pounds one Shilling eleven Pence and one Halfpenny lawful money of Pennsylvania" that "the said John lent laid out and expended..."
James Wilson (1742-1798) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence. Wilson was elected twice to the Continental Congress, where he represented Pennsylvania and was a major force in drafting the United States Constitution. A leading legal theorist, he was one of the six original justices appointed by George Washington to the Supreme Court of the United States.
