James Warren Signed Title Page of "An Universal History" 1747
A signed title page, measuring 4.75" x 7.75", of "An Universal History, From the Earliest Account of Time…Vol. IX." London: T. Osborne, A. Miller, and J. Osborn, 1747. Signed "Jas: Warren" at the upper right corner. With slightly rough and toned edges. Mat burn at the edges and foxing throughout. Minor paper loss at the corners. Clear signature.
James Warren (1726-1808) served as President of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress and 7th Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. During the war, he served as Paymaster General of the Continental Army and was an outspoken Anti-Federalist after conflict. Warren married his second cousin Mercy Otis Warren, who became a famous historian, poet, and playwright in her own right.
