Astronaut Jack Lousma Signed Columbia Landing Photo as STS-3 Commander
Color NASA photograph measuring 8" x 10", No place, undated. An official photograph titled, "Space Shuttle Columbia Returns from Space". Signed and inscribed "To Dr. Karl Heck - God bless and happy landings! Jack Lousma Cdr STS-3." With information on verso pertaining to the Columbia space shuttle and its mission, along with classroom aids for teachers. Boldly signed, very fine.
Jack Robert Lousma (b. 1936) is a NASA astronaut, aeronautical engineer, and former Marine Corps officer who was a member of the second Skylab-3 crew in 1973. He was then placed in command of the STS-3 space shuttle mission in 1982. The mission lasted from March 22-30, 1982, and involved extensive orbital endurance tests on the Columbia, as well as several additional scientific experiments. After retiring the following year, Lousma briefly sought political office but was unsuccessful. Fifteen years later, he was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.
