A PAIR OF CHINESE REPUBLIC PERIOD "NOBLE MOTHER AND ATTENDANT WITH BOY" PORCELAIN VASES, 1912-1949, each of tall square form and a flared rim above a waisted neck flaring to conforming tapered sides, one side enclosing a fluttering butterfly above banana trees shading an elegant noblewoman and her attendant maiden on a walled terrace with a stand topped by a basin filled with auspicious scholar's rocks amidst green foliage, each with serene expressions and wearing long beautiful robes while gazing at her frisky boy, reversing to a touching interior scene of this noble mother seated as her boy climbs onto her lap and being served tea by her attendant, before a table with a tree trunk vase filled with a lotus bloom stem, hand fan, and scrolls, beneath a circular window opening to a gnarly ancient pine, flanked by exterior sides of parcel-gilt and molded beastly masks suspending applied ring handles, beneath three rows of overglaze iron-red archaic character marks above four long rows of black calligraphic script signed lower left with a shaped iron-red seal mark. Normal small kiln firing frits, one has a rim chip, both have expected worn enameling on sides, small faint scratches, and light wear from use.
