Description
Pair of Chinese Carved Statues, early 20th c., consisting of a sage, with scrimshaw decoration; and a woman with a hand fan, both on carved mahogany bases, Sage- H.- 13 1/2 in., W.- 2 1/2 in., D.- 3 3/4 in.; Woman- H.- 11 1/4 in., W.- 2 1/2 in., D.- 3 7/8 in. (2 Pcs.)
Condition
The female figure is in overall very good condition with no visible cracks or losses. The wood base has been reaffixed with an adhesive that is lightly visible from the rear. The male figure has a long vertical age crack that extends downward through the right shoulder through most of the other side-the crack does not perforate the underside of the robe. The crack has opened up with a few tiny losses that have been filled with a resin/fixative and lightly overglazed with a near matching color. The face and head have hairline age cracks, and there are a few small losses to the to the branch tips and the adjacent belt on the figure. Both figures with remnants of ink. Figures are "real"; they are not resin or bone.
