inscribed "Doct.r Josiah Bartlett Bought of Edmund Sawyer, Newbury July 11, 1759," with a list of purchased items including Bohea tea, brown sugar, liquor and Borax. H: 11.75 in., W: 7.375 in. Provenance: By descent in the family of Josiah Bartlett, founding father and New Hampshire statesman, as well as it's first Governor. A signer of the Articles of Confederation and the Declaration of Independence, the first to be asked and vote for the Declaration of Independence and second to sign it after the President of Second Continental Congress John Hancock.
