Civil War period carte de visite photographs (4) of actor John Wilkes Booth (1838-1865) Famed 19th century American stage actor and assassin of President Abraham Lincoln. Grouping includes; 1.) Seated knees up view of Booth in pensive pose titled at lower obverse "John Wilkes Booth". Carte presents no backmark. 2.) Seated knees up view of Booth in pensive pose titled at lower obverse "J. W. Booth". Carte presents no backmark. 3.) Seated knees up view of Booth in pensive pose titled . Carte presents backmark of Charles D. Fredericks, Broadway, New York. 4.) Seated knees up view of Booth holding cane titled at lower obverse "J. W. Booth" in manuscript ink label with some loss. Carte presents no backmark and has remnants of 2-cent tax stamp on reverse. Cartes exhibit good to excellent tones with some exhibiting some slight edge bumping. Sold with a CDV seated knees up view of Edwin Booth (Brother of John Wilkes). Carte presents no backmark.
