Winfield Scott Edgerly, Miss Watson, Capt. Myles W. Keogh, Mrs. Maggie Calhoun, Mrs. Elizabeth Custer, Lt. Col. George A. Custer [standing center, in white jacket and hat], Dr. H. O. Paulding, Mrs. Henrietta Smith, Dr. George E. Lord, Capt. Thomas Bell Weir, Lt. William Winer Cooke, Lt. R. E. Thompson, Miss Wadsworth, another Miss Wadsworth, Capt. Thomas Custer, and Lt. Algernon Emery Smith, albumen print attributed to David Frances Barry (1854-1934), 3-7/8 x 5-7/8 in.; mounted on cardstock, ink notation verso "Genl. [sic] Geo. A. Custer and Friends on Heart River-May, 1876", 4-1/4 x 6-1/8 in. One minor ink spot, minor wear, edge irregularities, tiny sealed tears; cardstock with tape residue verso, clipped corners, one pinhole at top Provenance: Descended in the family of Daniel Kanipe, great-grandfather of consignor; a similar image is in the collection of the Denver Public Library, Western History/Genealogy Department, Ref. No. B-424, where titled "The Custer clan, a hunting party in 1875, seated under tent"; they also note "Created/Published 1875" and "Printed by D. F. Barry at later date".
