Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built figural redware vessel of a seated female shown nude with a portly body, delineated genitalia, and diminutive limbs. She presents an expressive visage comprised of applied ovoid eyes, a protruding nose, puckering lips, petite ears, and a pointed chin - all topped by a headdress which also forms the flared spout. Ceremonial scarification further adorns her cheeks. Size: 6" W x 6" H (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm)
Provenance: private W. M. collection, Traverse City, Michigan, USA; acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Bergsma prior to 1976 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Condition
Loss to proper left hand and proper left ear. Expected nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice with lovely manganese deposits.
