Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 360 to 320 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery kantharos of a near-miniature form with a flared foot, a tapered lower body beneath corseted upper walls, and a pair of high-arching handles. The vessel is covered with a deep black glaze save for the bottom of the foot, and areas of faint silvery iridescence have formed across the surfaces. Size: 4.75" W x 3.4" H (12.1 cm x 8.6 cm).
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

Repair to one handle, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, handles, and foot, with light fading to glaze pigmentation, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout.
