Description
**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery olpe (drinking mug) with a flared foot, an apple-shaped body, a corseted rim, and a slender strap handle arching from neck to shoulder. The entire vessel - save for inside the body and beneath the foot - is covered with a lustrous black glaze, and some lower-fired areas bear a russet hue. A lovely utilitarian example from ancient Apulia! Size: 3" W x 4.1" H (7.6 cm x 10.4 cm).
Provenance: ex-estate of Roy Green, Birmingham, Alabama acquired before 2015 from major New York galleries

Condition
Repair to large area of rim from multiple pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to foot, body, handle, and rim, with light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and traces of original glaze coloration throughout.
