Description


PROVENANCE:
From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.


Dimensions: 23-1/4" H x 16-1/2" W

Precious, Chinese Qing Dynasty period, doucai open face landscape amphora moon vase. Finest porcelain potted in moon vase, thick and tall, with bulbous lower region, moon belly, sweeping up into a slender neckline and straight mouth rim, emerge two red archaic dragon handles flanked from neck to the shoulder rim, create majestic handles, raised on short rectangle foot base with slight concave footing. The exterior characterize in doucai hand painted. Colors which fit together but also contrasting or joined colors. Decoration in a combination of under glaze cobalt blue outlines and enamels added on top of the fired glaze, within the outlines. Moon belly depicted of farmer with a buffalo plowing the rice fields, below dense tree and ruyi clouds. Covered with abundant flower blooms, interlocking tendril and shou Chinese calligraphy on the mid. Big flying fubat on the collar bordered with repeating taotie mask and interlocking key fret on shoulder. Because of their importance to agriculture, the water buffalo or ox (niu) symbolizes springtime, harvest, and fertility. To city dwellers and government officials, the water buffalo also represents a simple and idyllic life. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
