Description
Attributed to Jacques Philippe Caresme (French, 1734 - 1796), pen and ink wash with gouache on laid paper, depicting a satyr with two putti at his feet and a large chalice in his hand, with the faint outline of another figure in the background. Sheet has been cut into a circular shape and mounted to a mat with hand painted and gilded surround, inscribed J.P. Caresme with artist's life dates beneath the image. Giltwood frame. Sheet - approximately 10 5/8" diameter. Frame - 20"H x 17 3/4". A note en verso states this work was purchased in Paris at a church bazaar of St. Thomas d'Acquin.

Condition
Significant toning, probably due to being adhered to an acidic support. Not examined out of frame. 6" area of loss to gilding on frame.
