Description
An inscription identifies the subject as Rana Pratap Singh, probably referring to Maharana Pratap Singh II of Mewar (r. 1751–1754) who, after ascending to the throne, only lived for a few years. The equestrian portrait follows the Mewari conventions of encircling the head of the ruler with a nimbus and placing a crescent moon opposite his forehead. He is killing a lion which has attacked one of his soldiers.
