No. 125, issued for 2 shares to Walter Webb on March 19th, 1866 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Signed by president Sibley and treasurer Prince. Not cancelled. 25 cent IR adhesive stamp attached at bottom right with pen cancel. Two vignettes: prospector with his dog (upper left) and placer mining scene (top center). Very attractive! Printed by Hatch & Co., NY. Mine was discovered in 1865 . Geologist Henry Ames had travelled to Lake Vermillion earlier that summer and returned to St. Paul in October with a small gold sample and reports of finding gold. This began what was known as the Vermillion Gold Rush. Little gold was found, but iron was discovered, causing the development of the Vermillion Iron Range.
